Guidebooks

Since the earliest days of Philmont, a series of guidebooks were published to provide important and useful information to campers. From 1979 until the present, each guidebook is dated with the year it was intended to be used. Prior to 1979, the guidebooks were undated making it a little more difficult to establish what year they were for.

1965 is the first known use of the name "Guidebook to Adventure" and a forerunner of the the guide books used today. Other Guidebooks - During the 1950s and 1960s, Philmont guidebooks were called "Exploring Philmont". We also found another type of guidebook called "Leaders Guidebook". We can only assume that the data each contained was merged about 1965. The remaining copies of the Exploring Philmont we have found are undated but assumed to be from the 1940s, 1950s and perhaps the early 1960s.
